THE PEACE RIVER BRIDGE

In 1942, during the construction of the Alaska Highway, a bridge had to be built across the Peace River. This bridge crosses from the city of Peace River into Taylor. After the construction of this bridge, ice jams took a large portion of this bridge out. In February of 1942, the 341st Co. "D" Engineers replaced that large portion of that original bridge. It was a very dangerous job as the water was bitter cold and very swift.
